چکیده

This article reviews and discusses (1) the discovery and early work on the evolution of quasars and AGNs, (2) the different techniques used to find quasars and their suitability for evolutionary studies, (3) the current status of our knowledge of AGN evolution for 0< z < 6, (4) the new results and questions that deep radio and X-ray surveys are producing for the subject, (5) the relation of AGNs to the massive black holes being found in local galaxies and what they tell us about both galaxy and AGN evolution, and (6) current research problems and future directions in quasar and AGN evolution. 1.

Estimating the continuum of quasars using the articial neural networks

A lot of absorption lines are in the bluewards of Lyα emission line of quasar which is well-known as Lyαforest. Most of absorption lines in this forest belong to the Lyα absorption of the neutral hydrogen in the inter-galactic medium (IGM). For high redshift quasars and in the continuum with low and medium resolution, there are no many regions without absorption, so that, the quasar continuum i...

The Evolution of Quasars at High Redshift and Their Connection with Galaxies

I review recent observations on the evolution of quasars, describe new surveys for quasars at z > 5 and for quasars with z > 3.3 down to luminosities corresponding to L* galaxies, and note the possible connection between the evolution of the star formation rate in young galaxies and the evolution of quasars.

Study of Possible Local Quasars I: The First Sample

This study provides new arguments for the existence of local quasars, i.e. quasars in the vicinity of low redshift galaxies. Local quasars are probably ejected from respective parent galaxy. The sample includes 74 quasars in the vicinity of 8 different galaxies. Assuming for quasars the same distances from the observer, as for their respective parent galaxy, simple calculations lead to the quas...

Cosmological evolution of compact AGN at 15 GHz

Aims. We study the uniformity of the distribution of compact flat-spectrum AGN on the sky and the evolution of their relativistic jets with cosmic epoch. Methods. A complete sample of compact extragalactic radio sources at 15 GHz was recently compiled to conduct the MOJAVE program. The MOJAVE sample comprises 133 radio-loud flat-spectrum AGN with compact relativistic outflows detected at parsec...

The X-ray Properties of the Most-luminous Quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Utilizing 21 new Chandra observations as well as archival Chandra, ROSAT, and XMM-Newton data, we study the X-ray properties of a representative sample of 59 of the most optically luminous quasars in the Universe (Mi ≈ −29.3 to −30.2) spanning a redshift range of z ≈ 1.5–4.5. Our full sample consists of 32 quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 3 (DR3) quasar catalog, two...
